Skylight…

I never tire of the scenes found along Charleston’s waterways.  With the sun peeking through the rain clouds so beautifully, I had to pull over and snap this photograph.

I couldn’t resist taking a photograph of this man with his loyal (and well trained) companion as they took in the sites of SEWE from the Ashley River. Talk about giving new meaning to the term “doggy paddle!”

Love it!

Sullivan’s Storm…

This image of the Ben Sawyer Bridge was taken from Sullivan’s Island looking back toward Mount Pleasant as a storm approached.  The clouds were amazing!

Originally constructed in 1945, the Ben Sawyer Bridge was named in honor of Benjamin Mack Sawyer, the Chief Highway Commissioner of the South Carolina Highway Department from 1926-1940.  The bridge connects Sullivan’s Island to Mount Pleasant, and is notably the most unique bridge in the Charleston area because of its ability to swing on a central axis to allow the passing of boat traffic.

A Walk of Art…

Known for its history and culture, Charleston is a city that thrives on the arts.  The French Quarter (the area between Market Street, Meeting Street, Broad Street and the Cooper River) boasts a bevy of galleries featuring works from local artists.  Spencer Galleries I & II at 55 & 57 Broad Street, featured below, is one of the many galleries patrons visit during the French Quarter Art Walk held on the first Friday of every month.

Pure Art…

While Charleston is a city known for its beautiful architecture and detail, my favorite building is one you’ve likely never looked at twice–the old Buffalo South shopping center on Folly Road. For those of you who haven’t yet experienced the AMAZING graffiti artwork of Doug “The Sheepman” Panzone, I encourage you to take a drive out this weekend to witness for yourself the talent of a brilliant artist!  After my oldest son and I completed a three-year restoration on his 1971 Camaro, we immediately drove over to shoot his car using the murals as our backdrop.

Marion Square…

Named for Francis Marion, an American Revolutionary War officer, Marion Square is one of Charleston’s most popular greenspaces.  Centrally located in downtown Charleston, the nearly six and half acres is used to host such events as the South Carolina Wildlife Expo, the Charleston Food & Wine Festival, Charleston Fashion Week, and Spoleto.

The cruise ship Oceana and her nearly 2,000 passengers pulled into Charleston’s port early this morning ready to explore the Holy City.  After a full day of shopping, dining, and touring, passengers will reboard this absolutely gorgeous liner to set sail across the Atlantic for their next destination… the Azores!

Support for Veronica…

On Saturday, January 28th, Matt and Melanie Capobianco were joined by a large group of supporters in downtown Charleston as they held a candlelight vigil for their daughter Veronica.  To represent the 28 days since Veronica was returned to her biological father, the group lit 28 candles around Colonial Lake and many wore purple shirts as purple is Veronica’s favorite color.  It was truly a beautiful evening!

Full Steam Ahead…

I couldn’t resist the juxtaposition of historic Castle Pinckney and this cargo ship leaving Charleston in the early morning.  Did you know Charleston is the nation’s fourth busiest container port?

Named for Charles Pinckney, a decorated American Revolutionary War hero, the construction of Fort Pinckney was completed in 1804.  However, after being nearly destroyed by a hurricane that same year, the fort was rebuilt as “Castle Pinckney” and abandoned off and on over the next thirty years.  Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the landmark has sadly fallen into disrepair as its location has made it nearly impossible to access for proper maintenance and care.

A Folly Winter’s Day…

We often take for granted living near some of the most beautiful beaches in South Carolina–especially during the winter.  Thought to share a few shots I took while out enjoying the beauty of Folly Beach.

It’s all in the details…

Designed by Gabriel Manigault, a Charlestonian who studied architecture abroad, Charleston’s City Hall was built in 1801 and originally served as the Bank of the United States.  The details of his work speak for themselves.

La Bubbly…

Created by Brad Ball, a certified sommelier and owner of Social Wine Bar on East Bay Street, La Bubbly is fast becoming Charleston’s most requested (and hippest) sparkling wine!  Stop by Social to enjoy a glass or pick up your very own bottle at Whole Foods in Mt. Pleasant!  Cheers!

Prime Real Estate…

Historic Charleston is not only the perfect backdrop for photographers, but it’s also a favorite among those looking to exercise outside while enjoying the view…

One of Charleston’s most popular areas, East Bay Street, provides some of the best restaurants in the Holy City along with amazing boutiques and even a few “Charleston Benches” where you can stop to rest and enjoy the scenery.
